Level of study
Entry Levels 1,2,3: If you have never studied this subject before and you’re not confident in your skills, Entry levels are a good starting point.
Level 1: Covers basic skills and knowledge needed for this subject
Level 2: Building on basic knowledge or experience. Similar to Grade 4/ C at GCSE or O level in England or Standards in Scotland.
Level 3: Learn about the topic in-depth and have a broad range of skills. Independent working Equivalent to an A level in England or Higher in Scotland.
Beginners: A perfect introduction if you have no experience and skills in this subject.
Improvers: The next step if you have basic skills or knowledge but want to progress them further.
Advanced: Build on the solid experience and skills you have in this subject, applying your skills and knowledge in a more complex way.

What we’ll cover
Develop your understanding of numbers, including ordering, comparing, and sequencing.
Learn multiplication and division using single and double digit numbers.
Make calculations with money using decimal places and the correct units.
Broaden your understanding of 2-D and 3-D shapes and be able to describe their properties.
Sort and classify data in tables, lists, diagrams, and bar charts.
This is a preparation course for the functional skills maths entry 3 qualification. It is not an accredited course.
The aim of this programme is to help you start your functional maths course with the prior knowledge you’ll need.
This maths course is for adults. It aims to help you develop basic numeracy skills at your own pace.
Before you can enrol on this course, you’ll do a skills check. Don’t worry, this isn’t an exam. It’s for us to make sure you get on the right course for your level. Our friendly team will contact you to start your skills check as part of your booking.
When you complete this preparatory course, you will be ready to take the functional skills entry 3 course in maths.
There are “get ready” courses between every level to help you succeed at the next step.
What to expect
This preparation course for functional skills in maths takes around 40 hours to complete. It gives you more opportunities to learn the numeracy skills required for an entry 3 functional skills course.
Please note that you’ll need an internet connection to study this maths course. This is so you can access our digital learning platform, Canvas.
