Course overview

This course is intended to help existing learners that have previously attended BSL classes to progress further in their conversation building skills. The course will concentrate on the need for clarification and interrupting conversations to ask further questions to aid understanding. Learners will also increase vocabulary in the following three areas: Emotions, Employment and Homelife. This course will be taught online through the use of Zoom with live taught sessions and will be facilitated through the use of Canvas a Digital Learning Platform. Learners will take part in various learning activities such as discussions, paired and group work and tutor led demonstrations.

Course description

This is a fun and interactive course taught online through the use of Zoom as a virtual classroom and taught live with a tutor. The learning will focus on building further conversational skills with existing learners to further develop their ability to hold a basic conversation in British Sign Language. During the course learners will take part in various learning activities to give them the opportunity to recap and recall new vocabulary learnt in the sessions covering various topics such as employment, homelife and emotions. Learners will work in pairs and small groups to develop a conversation based around one of these topics, to evidence the learning taking place on the course. It will be encouraged for learners to share their work with the group to get verbal feedback, to help to improve their sentence structure. Through the online course delivery learners will be able to watch live tutor led demonstrations, ask questions and take part in discussions. The use of Canvas our Digital Learning Platform will fully facilitate the learning journey of each learner, with an emphasis on the completion of various learning activities throughout the duration of the course. The course will comprise of 10 x 2 hour sessions with 20 guided learning hours.
