Course description
Have you ever looked at the painted ceilings in historical houses or a painting showing a scene from literature and struggled to understand the stories they show or wanted to know more about the characters in art works and music. Myths, Legends and Romance have been the lifeblood of art and music throughout history. Enjoy this journey though the landscape of art, music and literature from ancient to modern times. Listen to the music, from folk tunes to the symphony orchestra and the operas and modern popular songs. Enjoy the golden braid of literature, art and music from different periods: Greek stories, Bible stories, folk lore, Shakespeare stories, Greek tales rewritten by modern writers, 20th century operas by including Bartok, Gershwin, Stravinsky. For each lecture, full notes are provided and the PowerPoints with all the music and film clips are available to everyone.
