Entry Level ESOL: Everyday English: Elementary

In this six-week ESOL course, (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners will practice their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through the topics of Introductions, countries and nationalities, personal information, classroom, culture, meeting people, jobs and the family. Areas of grammar will be the present simple, a/an, and possessive s. We will focus on areas of pronunciation including vowel and consonant sounds. Vocabulary will centre around numbers, countries and nationalities, common objects, verb phrases, jobs, and the family. Students will engage in pair work, games, written and verbal exercises. There will also be two written assignments in which learners will complete a form and write an informal email/letter using given examples as scaffolding. There will be a formative assessment part way through the course with a summative assessment at the end to help learners gauge their own progress and develop a degree of autonomy in their learning. It is hoped that learners will progress to the next course in the series upon successful completion.
