Do you want to learn the basics of watercolours? Have you tried before and given up in frustration? Why not join this course for support and encouragement? Watercolour, simply put, is water mixed with pigment which is then applied to paper. But painting with watercolours is something entirely different. It can be complex, confusing, and fun at the same time. While not a medium to be controlled or manipulated, part of the very beauty of working with watercolours is learning to let go! Course description

This course is aimed at complete beginners and those that have had a go but still feel as if they are beginners. You will learn the basics of using washes; how to make brush marks; discover how to use colour; a variety of methods for creating textures and effects such as resists, stippling, spattering, dry brush, wet-in-wet and wet-on-dry. Demonstrations will take place via tutor webcam and you will have access to downloadable handouts and online resources. Sessions will comprise of short warm-ups to give you the opportunity to try techniques. After this, you will take part in longer exercises using what you learnt. Teaching will include weekly feedback via informal discussions with the tutor and other students within the sessions as well as online discussion groups to create a sense of shared experience, encouragement and support. Options after this course, include a follow on ‘Watercolours for Complete Beginners’ course, or progressing to a more advanced course for intermediate students.
