Course overview

This is a fun and interactive course, ideal to follow on from the Beginners BSL. The intention of this course is to develop skills in BSL for community engagement, further learning and possibly employment in a school/work setting. The course will run for 14 guided learning hours and will be taught face to face at St Marys Community Centre in Pontefract. Learners will be fully supported in achieving the learning outcomes for the course and the intention is that the course will help them to further develop their confidence in order for them to engage in signed conversations with their peers.

Course description

This course is intended for learners that have previously done a BSL Beginners course, who want to further develop their conversational skills in order to become more proficient in their use of BSL. The course will help learners to develop their confidence when using vocabulary and will help them to focus more on the BSL word order being used in conversations. Our highly experienced tutor (Pre-Entry 6 BSL) will guide learners through the course, helping them to gather learning evidence for the learning outcomes as they are achieved. Learners will explore a range of vocabulary relating to hobbies and interests and home life. Learners will then learn how to apply the vocabulary to conversations gaining confidence in asking questions volunteering answers. Learners will engage in group and paired work through out the course. Learners will also take part in some independent work outside of session time and submit this through Canvas.
