Level of study
Entry Levels 1,2,3: If you have never studied this subject before and you’re not confident in your skills, Entry levels are a good starting point.
Level 1: Covers basic skills and knowledge needed for this subject
Level 2: Building on basic knowledge or experience. Similar to Grade 4/ C at GCSE or O level in England or Standards in Scotland.
Level 3: Learn about the topic in-depth and have a broad range of skills. Independent working Equivalent to an A level in England or Higher in Scotland.
Beginners: A perfect introduction if you have no experience and skills in this subject.
Improvers: The next step if you have basic skills or knowledge but want to progress them further.
Advanced: Build on the solid experience and skills you have in this subject, applying your skills and knowledge in a more complex way.
Course overview
Course description
This is a fun and interactive course taught face to face at St Mary’s Community Centre, Pontefract. The learning will focus on building further conversational skills with existing learners to further develop their ability to hold a basic conversation in British Sign Language. During the course learners will take part in various learning activities to give them the opportunity to recap and recall new vocabulary learnt in the sessions covering various topics such as employment, homelife and emotions. Learners will work in pairs and small groups to develop a conversation based around one of these topics, to evidence the learning taking place on the course. It will be encouraged for learners to share their work with the group to get verbal feedback, to help to improve their sentence structure. Through the face to face delivery of this course learners will be able to watch tutor led demonstrations, ask questions and take part in discussions. The use of Canvas our Digital Learning Platform will fully facilitate the learning journey of each learner, with an emphasis on the completion of various learning activities throughout the duration of the course. The course will comprise of 8 x 2 hour sessions with 16 guided learning hours.
