Take your maths skills to the next level to help you with work or study opportunities. Adult maths teaches you practical numeracy skills for everyday life. This entry 3 functional skills maths course offers a practical way to learn maths as an adult. Functional skills maths courses aren’t like studying maths at school. You’ll learn maths in context. Develop maths skills to face real-life situations such as organising your personal budget or applying discounts when shopping. This entry 3 functional maths course is right for you if you want to enhance your maths skills to work or study. It can help you learn essential maths skills employers look for. Functional Skills qualifications are free if you don't already have a GCSE in English or Maths at grades A*-C, or 4-9. We'll check your level and any previous qualifications before you start. This ensures you are on the correct course. This course is funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority.

Course description

What we’ll cover

  • Develop your understanding of numbers, including approximation and rounding to 10 and 100.

  • Learn to multiply with decimals and do long divisions.

  • Carry out calculations involving money using the correct units and decimal places.

  • Develop your understanding of 2-D and 3-D shapes, including the concepts of symmetry, length, and angles.

  • Interpret and be able to organise data in tables, lists, diagrams, and bar charts.

Entry 3 functional skills maths courses teach you essential maths skills for learning, life, and work. This is an adult maths course with a practical focus.

When you finish entry 3 level you can progress to level 1 functional skills maths courses. There are also “get ready” courses between each level to prepare you for the next course. The highest level is level 2.

Level 2 maths functional skills courses are accepted as a GCSE equivalent for many jobs and courses. They can help you do an apprenticeship, higher education course, or go to University.

What to expect

This maths course takes around 60 hours to complete. Functional skills courses are ideal for flexible learning. You can choose to take an in-person or online functional skills course.

To take this functional maths course you need to have a digital device such as a computer or tablet. You’ll also need an internet connection. This is so you can access our digital learning platform, Canvas.

Before you can enrol on this course, you’ll do a skills check. Don’t worry, this isn’t an exam. It’s for us to make sure you get on the right course for your level.
