Course overview

Build on basic reading skills with these ESOL classes. This is an English course for beginners. It is aimed at speakers of other languages. ESOL courses help you learn basic English for life in the UK and improve your chances of finding work or study options. This ESOL entry 2 reading course builds on skills you learnt at entry 1. Grow your vocabulary and improve your reading skills in English. There are also writing and speaking & listening courses at this level. If you’re helping others find ESOL courses in the UK, you’ve come to the right place. This course is funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority.

Course description

What we’ll cover Learn to use a dictionary to explore new and unfamiliar vocabulary in English. Understand and follow written instructions and directions. Read and understand how to fill out forms asking for personal information. Understand the main points of a text talking about events or instructions. Read and be able to explain who a text is aimed at and what it’s about. This is an English course for adults. You will work on developing your reading skills. You need foundational reading skills to take this course, that’s why you’ll need to do a skills check to enrol. Don’t worry, this isn’t an exam. It’s for us to make sure you get on the right course for your level. Our friendly team will contact you to start your skills check as part of your booking. When you complete this module, you can continue with other entry 2 ESOL courses. Once you finish the reading, writing, and speaking & listening courses, you can progress to entry 3 level. There are also “Get Ready” courses between each module to prepare you for the next course. Please note that you’ll need an internet connection to study this ESOL course. This is so you can access our digital learning platform, Canvas. If you’d like to learn digital skills for online learning, you can also take our Canvas course for ESOL learners. The WEA is an experienced ESOL course provider. We want you to get the most out of your studies and open doors to opportunities. Our tutors and staff will help you with any language needs you might have. The WEA is committed to providing accessible adult education. Please note that you need to get to the end of the enrolment process to see the discounts.

We don't want anything to stand in your way when it comes to bringing Adult learning within reach so if you need anything to support you to achieve your goals then speak to one of our education experts during your enrolment journey. Most of our courses are government funded but if you don't qualify or need.
