Entry Levels 1,2,3: If you have never studied this subject before and you’re not confident in your skills, Entry levels are a good starting point.
Level 1: Covers basic skills and knowledge needed for this subject
Level 2: Building on basic knowledge or experience. Similar to Grade 4/ C at GCSE or O level in England or Standards in Scotland.
Level 3: Learn about the topic in-depth and have a broad range of skills. Independent working Equivalent to an A level in England or Higher in Scotland.
Beginners: A perfect introduction if you have no experience and skills in this subject.
Improvers: The next step if you have basic skills or knowledge but want to progress them further.
Advanced: Build on the solid experience and skills you have in this subject, applying your skills and knowledge in a more complex way.

What we’ll cover
Learn to identify common English words in everyday situations.
Understand signs, symbols and texts you will come across.
Read information about timetables, prices, and schedules.
Understand the purpose of different texts, including adverts, posters, and news articles.
Understand how punctuation is used to help you read more easily.
This is an entry 1 English course for adults. You will work on basic reading skills. It’s aimed at complete beginners so you don’t need any prior knowledge to sign up.
Before you can enrol on this course, you’ll do a skills check. Don’t worry, this isn’t an exam. It’s for us to make sure you get on the right course for your level. Our friendly team will contact you to start your skills check as part of your booking.
When you complete this module, you can continue with other entry 1 ESOL courses. Once you finish the reading, writing, and speaking & listening courses, you can progress to entry 2 level.
There are also “Get Ready” courses between each module to prepare you for the next course.
What to expect
This ESOL reading course takes around 90 hours to complete.
Please note that you’ll need an internet connection to study this English course for beginners. This is so you can access our digital learning platform, Canvas.
