Course overview

Develop foundational reading skills with this non-accredited Pre-entry Reading course. This English course is for speakers of other languages and is a face-to-face class in a local centre.This ESOL reading course helps people who are just starting to learn English. It will help you gain confidence reading short simple texts and common words in English. What we’ll cover:- Recognise the letters of the alphabet in upper and lower case; use an understanding of letters and sounds to identify common English words in everyday situations; read signs, symbols and texts you will come across in the community; and understand how punctuation is used to help you read more easily.

Course description

This is a Pre-entry English course for adults. You will work on basic reading skills. It’s aimed at complete beginners so you don’t need any prior knowledge.

When you complete this module, you can continue with other Pre-entry ESOL courses. Once you finish the reading, writing, and speaking & listening courses, you can progress to entry 1 level.

There are also “Get Ready” courses between each module to prepare you for the next course.

This ESOL reading course takes around 48 hours to complete.

Please note that you’ll need an internet connection to study this English course for beginners. This is so you can access our digital learning platform called Canvas.
