Course overview

Come and join a new course aimed at beginner sewers. No previous experience of the sewing machine is necessary. We will start with getting used to the machine and making a simple pin cushion. This will also make us think about what fabric we can recycle and use up all the little scraps of fabric you may have from previous projects. Using recycled materials not only helps in reducing waste but also sparks creativity by encouraging you to think outside the box.

Skills covered will include: seams and hems, buttonholes, inserting zips, sewing and reinforcing corners, sewing curves and darts. Each project is designed to build your confidence and proficiency with the sewing machine, while also promoting an eco-friendly approach to crafting.  We will discuss how designers and artists consider sustainability and look at where resources can be bought sustainably and ethically. This will include tips on sourcing second-hand materials and supporting local businesses that prioritise environmental responsibility.
