Entry Levels 1,2,3: If you have never studied this subject before and you’re not confident in your skills, Entry levels are a good starting point.
Level 1: Covers basic skills and knowledge needed for this subject
Level 2: Building on basic knowledge or experience. Similar to Grade 4/ C at GCSE or O level in England or Standards in Scotland.
Level 3: Learn about the topic in-depth and have a broad range of skills. Independent working Equivalent to an A level in England or Higher in Scotland.
Beginners: A perfect introduction if you have no experience and skills in this subject.
Improvers: The next step if you have basic skills or knowledge but want to progress them further.
Advanced: Build on the solid experience and skills you have in this subject, applying your skills and knowledge in a more complex way.
Course overview
Course description
In this course, you will learn how to make work from and be inspired by natural forms such as flowers, trees, and objects from the riverbed or seashore. Different tasks and approaches with watercolour will be discussed each session such as
• how to control water to pigment ratio and use of brush
• how to use a resist to create highlights
• how to create different effects using wet on wet techniques, line and wash, focus on lost and found edges.
• how to create texture using experimental techniques with different additive mediums (salt, bleach, clingfilm, gum Arabic)
• how to create colour harmonies and neutral colours such as greys and browns.
Sessions will be guided by an experienced tutor with demonstrations and tips as you go. Homework tasks and youtube videos (Canvas links) can be accessed to watch in your own time. As an online course, you are invited to share your work with others by uploading to canvas, and get involved in group discussion whilst reviewing the work.
No previous experience is required for this course which is open to beginners as well as those with experience who want fresh approaches and support whilst working with this medium. A materials list will be available and accessed on Canvas prior to course starting.
