Course overview

Gain essential knowledge and skills to support children’s development and well-being in a school or college setting. This course will introduce you to key areas such as child development, safeguarding practices, and the importance of diversity, equality, and inclusion in education. You will also gain insight into the daily operations of educational institutions and the variety of roles available within them. Throughout the course, your tutor will assess your learning through engaging tasks such as creating leaflets, charts, diagrams, or information boards. Once you have completed the Introduction course, you can then progress onto our Level 1 Award in Preparing To work in Schools. This qualification prepares you for a range of school and college-based roles, including: ✔️ Learning Assistant ✔️ Technical Support Worker ✔️ Classroom Volunteer ✔️ Administrative Worker ✔️ Other On-Site Roles To fully participate, you will need internet access to use the WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas, where tutors will provide important resources and assignments. The WEA is dedicated to supporting adult learners and creating an inclusive learning environment. Course description

Understand child development and learn how to support children's well-being. Gain insight into the operation of a school or college. Understand essential safeguarding practices for working with children. Become familiar with diversity, equality, and inclusion considerations in the school environment. Your tutor will set various tasks to assess your learning. These may include producing leaflets, charts or diagrams, or information boards. The aim of this course is to prepare you for a variety of job roles that can be done in schools and colleges. These could include: learning assistant, technical support worker, classroom volunteer, administrative worker, or any other on-site roles. If you have any accessibility requirements, please let us know. We’re committed to helping you access and enjoy adult education. If there’s something we can do to help you, we will. Please make sure you have access to the internet for the duration of this course. Our tutors use the WEA’s digital learning portal, Canvas, to send you important information and tasks. The WEA specialises in teaching adults. We want you to enjoy your studies, that’s why our tutors take great care to create a positive learning environment

Most of our courses are government funded but if you don't qualify or need alternative financial help to access them then let us know.
