Course overview

The Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning has been designed to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school or college environments. It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development, supporting children and young people’s positive behaviour and communication and professional relationships. It’s aimed at learners working in roles that support pupils’ learning in primary, secondary, or special schools, as well as colleges. This qualification is aimed at learners in placement / working in support roles within schools and colleges.

Course description

This qualification is ideal for learners looking to work with children and young people between the ages of 5 and 19 years of age and will give them the opportunity to gain knowledge of working with children and young people across a range of different settings including school, sixth forms, colleges, and SEN settings. Learners do not need to have previous experience or qualifications in working with children and young people to undertake this qualification however, learners must be aged 16 or over.

All units will be internally assessed using a range of assessment methods. Knowledge based outcomes can be assessed using a range of assessment tasks however, skills-based outcomes must be achieved in a real work environment or voluntary placement. Learners will be assessed by direct observation within the workplace and professional discussion. To gain this qualification, learners must complete all of the 11 mandatory units. Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

Placement opportunity must allow for skills application within a school or college placement.

After completing the Supporting teaching and learning level 2 learners can progress to the level 3 Supporting teaching and learning qualification or undertake an apprenticeship at level 3.
