Pre-Entry ESOL: Everyday English Elementary

In this six-week ESOL course, (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners will practice their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through the topics of: directions, food, water, holiday plans, predictions, menus and recipes. Grammar will focus on: a/an, some/any, how much/how many? Quantifiers: alot, not much etc., be going to for plans and be going to for predictions. Vocabulary will focus on: street furniture and giving directions, food, countable/uncountable nouns, drinks, holidays, verb phrases. Functional English will include role playing ordering a meal at a restaurant and following basic instructions for recipes. Learners will engage in a range of activities including pair work, groupwork, games, written and verbal exercises. There will also be a written assignment in which learners will write instructions for make a favourite sandwich using an example for scaffolding. It is hoped that learners will progress to the next course in the series upon successful completion.
