Course overview
Course description
We will look at ways to help you extend the lives of some of your much-loved clothes by mending small and larger holes using traditional darning techniques. Suggestions will also be given for more modern ways of darning. I shall also show you some examples of modern styles of darning where the darn is a design statement in its own right - these can be a lovely addition to many items and offer an opportunity for you to be creative and make something individual if you want to.
There will be time for you to ask questions before and during the session, and no question is a silly one! I will give advice on threading a needle and stabilising the fabric! You may wish to share your experience and ideas; I always learn something new too and I will love to hear your memories of older people darning in the past.
I will show you techniques in real time, so you can begin to do your own mending along with me if you would like to, showing me how you are doing, and asking any questions that arise from this.
