This is course 2 of a set of 2 courses which are an exciting opportunity to develop your confidence and skills in basic English literacy skills. The courses will concentre on reading and writing skills and building how to use the English alphabet. You will also build more confidence in your speaking and listening in English. You will learn basic skills such as reading and writing the alphabet, numbers and basic vocabulary. This course is designed to provide a basic foundation of skills to allow learners to access their next steps in a more formal learning setting.

The course is for learners who need support with English and who want to pass the Driving Theory test. Our course is friendly and a safe environment to ask questions. You will help each other to learn and practice through informal activities and discussions, helping you to develop your understanding and confidence. There will be an enrolment/assessment session on 18th March at 12.30 at Millan Centre, 89 Victor Street. BD9 4RA . This is a women-only centre. You must attend this enrolment session to make sure this is the right course for you. We will examine How the Empress Irene was able to not only maintain her status at court but also continue to pursue her own policies. We will go on to consider the difficulties posed by her irregular methods of maintaining imperial authority and how they in turn ultimately created the circumstances of her own downfall. Thereafter, we will look at the efforts made by her immediate successes to stabilise Roman interests both in the East and the West.
