Course overview

This course is designed to go alongside Personal Development: Skincare and Makeup For Beginners and Health and Safety in the Beauty Industry. Once you have the skills, you may want to start your own business. The first step in this is to become self-employed. It can seem like a minefield sometimes when you hear of all the legislation you must adhere to. Your experienced tutor will guide you through setting up your business and registering with the Governments Self-Assessment website to create an online account. We’ll also look at Book-keeping apps to keep track of spending and profits and find finding the right insurance.

Course description

Owning your own business gives you the flexibility to work when you want to but still be able to care for your family or maybe you would like to earn some extra money from a hobby or interest.

Choosing your own working hours is a luxury not everyone has. On this part of the course, we will discover the benefits and pitfalls of being a business owner. We will look at a basic business plan, start-up costs, relevant insurances, government regulations and becoming an employer. You will become aware of allowable expenses and how to offset these against your profits. Did you know you can claim back money for a home office? We will look at how to work out how much of your gas bill can be a business expense and how to work out business mileage among other allowable expenses.

If your business is to succeed, you will need to advertise your services so we will look at using social media and how this can take your business to the next level.

Your tutor has been self employed for over 10 years so has a lot of experience of running a small business.
